Can West Ham's Season Still Be Salvaged?

It's been a tough campaign for us Hammers fans. Currently 16th in the table, only scoring 23 goals and underperforming xG by 8 goals its been a drab season for the Irons. I think its fair to say though since the turn of the new year form has certainly improved and with new signing Danny Ings bagging 2 on his first start perhaps the season might turn around. Since the New Year West Ham have only lost 2 games against Spurs and Wolves and despite being poor defeats where the team looked stifled up top as it has for large parts of the season the big win at the weekend against Forest and solid draws against Chelsea and Newcastle have me more hopeful than many fans.

What I think many fans are also forgetting is the Conference League. Now, I know its easy to forget the Europa League's ugly sister especially considering we having played in it since early November but we are yet to lose in the competition and with a favourable draw against Cyprian outfit AEK Larnaka there is still hope for us to compete for a trophy somehow this season. We have showed good squad depth this season as well, Flynn Downes when given an opportunity looks like an extremely solid central midfielder who knows how to the read the game and I do believe if utilised correctly Scamacca could be a world class striker.

I believe if we play a similar 4-3-3 system to the one we saw at the weekend which will provide more balance in the midfield with Paqueta, Rice and Soucek spreading themselves all over the pitch with heat maps that look very exciting with the players putting in more running distance than they have at any other point during the season and with a clinical goal scorer like Danny Ings at striker who actually has the second best scoring frequency in the league after the weekend with a goal every 124 minutes the same as Harry Kane we might be on for at least mid table in the Premier League and another exciting European adventure if we see these xG numbers start reaching the numbers reflecting the numbers they are supposed to and if David Moyes plays with the same attacking freedom and confidence we saw at the weekend and not the rigid long ball counter attacking football we saw against Spurs and if we don't see that it might be time to bring in somebody who can provide the attacking players in this team with more confidence.
